Post Travels

Well, as you all know I am a very inconsistent blogger. Not that I'm not into it. It's dedicating the time to maintain it. Well here I am 9 months down the track writing another post to declare, that yes I am alive.

Here's a bit of an update from last 9 months. Boy, have I experienced a lot...

About a year ago I decided it was time to leave my job. I learnt a lot during my time there but I wanted to pursue other things. I had a decision to make; I could resign and just find another job and feel unsatisfied or I could  pursue my life dream of seeing the world. For those who know me well, I had been talking of seeing New York, living in Indonesia for years and years. It all talk for a long time. Then I finally decided to act, saving up enough money while working full time.

Originally i was going to just spend some time in south East Asia but when I went to the travel agent, I decided I would also like to go to Europe. And then he suggested "What about New York?" I thought what the hell. I'm going half way across the world why not tick that dream off too.

So I had a pretty big bucket list to complete in a short period of time and travelling pretty much around the world. A pretty big feat for your average girl from Preston. When I planning my trip, it seemed so out of my reach, like a fantasy. The reality of what I was trying to do hit me when i was in Asia. Can an inexperienced traveller really see that much of the world in such a short time all on her own? When I told others of my plans they thought I was crazy which made me feel like I actually was. I started questioning and doubting myself.
Can I actually do it?
Well I did...
The next few posts we'll journey through together. Awww this sounds like a motivational speech. But this is actually a great way for me debrief my thoughts and reminisce about my time away. i did actually happen even though upon returning life goes back to normal. I hope the experience is insightful for you who ever has chosen to read this and you learn a little something.

Personlised notebook for my friend.

I'm not sure where's this creative spurt is coming from but I'm enjoying the ride and getting into to blogging again. so i hope it isnt too painful for those who read this.
I'm saving dollars at the moment, so DIY presents are in order. it was my friend's birthday last week. I bought her a notebook and pretty/personalized it. Part of the way i show love to people is through making things and choosing nice presents. So i really enjoy doing this kind of stuff even though it takes a bit of time.
Front page. I photocopied an old children's story book and stamped the title. I love using text in my work.

Drawing for St Hilary's art show september 2011. A montage of church commmuntiy surroundings. This was th basis for the textile piece below. It was a collaborative effort between myself and Russell Llloyd.
Hanging Thread drawing: Stitched onto wash-away fabric and then coated in a fabric hardner.
My mum's 50th: inspired by black and white photographs of my mum Julie, russell and i painted black and white photocopies with water colour to create a nostalgic ambiance.

The drive way. White paper bags with a water colour print on front filled with sand and a tea light candle. A glowing fairy tale walk way. this was Russell's concept.
